Castle Crags State Park, CA

Castle Crags State Park is a true California hidden gem. As you drive along the I-5 going North towards Mt. Shasta, it’s an easy feature to miss if you are not looking off to the West at the right moment. If you manage to capture a glimpse you should see the granite spires glow in the sun as they rise above the forest. Like a crown set back in the Castle Crags Wilderness Area within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, the area awaits discovery for those willing to make the 5.5 mile round trip up to the base of the crags and Castle Dome. The area was the ancestral home to the Okwanuchu Shasta people and revered by others such as the Wintu, Achumawi, and Modoc people.
